MELBOURNE, Fla., Sept. 9, 2024 — When Medi-Share launched its Project K.E.E.P. initiative (Keeping Elected officials Encouraged through Prayer) on Sept. 11, 2021, it did so in recognition of the 20th anniversary of one of the most devastating events to impact our nation. The aftermath of that tragedy saw a return to prayer and a restored unity among our citizens, and those outcomes are what Project K.E.E.P. strives to reproduce.

Now, three years later, it has seen individuals unite in prayer for over 3,400 elected officials from all 50 states and across all political parties and religious backgrounds.

“Prayer is non-partisan and is a practice embraced by nearly every faith tradition,” said Lindsey Swindle, Medi-Share's Director of Government and Policy Affairs, and Project K.E.E.P. Administrator. “We invite everyone to join us in praying for our elected officials across the board in a way that is people-focused, not issues-driven.”

“Our houses of worship were filled following the Sept. 11 attack upon our nation, and we seemed to come to a collective realization that the United States was not impregnable. In our vulnerability, we turned to God as our source of strength and protection,” Swindle continued.

“Now, 23 years later, we sense an increased need for shared humility and a desire for unity in deepening our dependance upon God,” Swindle added. “We encourage everyone to take a moment on Wednesday to reflect on our nation’s history, remember those we’ve lost, and perhaps attend a community ceremony as a commitment that ‘We Will Never Forget.’  We should focus on the impact of prayer on our nation and keep praying for all affected by Sept. 11.  Finally, Project K.E.E.P. provides a great opportunity to join with others regularly in lifting up all our leaders in prayer regarding the specific and unique burdens they bear as elected representatives.”

Each month, Project K.E.E.P. delivers an email newsletter with specific names of elected leaders to pray for each day along with a suggested prayer to lift on their behalf, related to their need for wisdom, encouragement and balance in their commitments and priorities. Legislators who have previously been on the list and been prayed for also share short videos regarding the power of prayer in their lives and decision-making.

Project K.E.E.P. was born out of Medi-Share's relationship with many state governments, as its leadership was in regular communication with representatives regarding healthcare rules and regulations, helping them to understand that healthcare sharing is not insurance and requires different oversight. Inspired by the biblical instruction to pray for those in authority found in 1 Timothy chapter 2, Medi-Share invites all members – and indeed all believers – to join them in keeping elected officials encouraged through prayer.

As Medi-Share's Director of Government and Policy Affairs, Swindle interacts with legislators regularly, and as a former legislative aide for two state senators, she remains passionate about supporting elected officials and their staff at every level, understanding the unique challenges they face.  More information about Project K.E.E.P. is available at www.medishare.com/projectkeep.
